Karen's Art - About the artist

Hello.

My name is Karen. I am a New Zealander and my family consists of my husband and two children. Throughout my life, I have always enjoyed craft as a pastime; from this I have experience in sketching, needle crafts, ceramics and scrapbooking.

I have helped run and create crafts for fundraising at my children's school, when they were young. I still enjoy crafts but my first love, even as a child, has been sketching and painting.

My occupations have had no direct link to the arts in any way, however I have always had a sketch pad around. I did not fully appreciate my natural talent for colour until the year 2000. Bright vibrant colours have always attracted me but I never paid any extra attention to it.

I have been producing oil pastels on a regular basis and have also pursued other interests in the arts which benefits me in lots of ways. While there is reward for every creative craft that I do, my natural ability with colours and drawing is what I have chosen to embrace and care most for.

Accompanied by music, and the fact that I have no plan or direction before starting, the piece than creates a life and presence of its own. This usually relates to part of my personality that needs to create my own thing .It really helps me make up my mind about something that could be hanging around in a negative way. Copying is a useful tool to teach but creating your own thing has its benefits as well.- uniqueness.

I sincerely hope that those who purchase my art will enjoy it forever in the way I enjoyed my own, as I never ever get bored looking at them, because there is always something different to see.

To me there is nothing more rewarding than self discovery of what you should have been doing all your life. I have found the ultimate belief is within you, if I had of stopped creating because my art is different, that would be stopping my life force. TO CREATE WHAT I LIKE.
